The Art of Unwinding: Fascia, Tension & Somatic Release on the Roof with Samantha

The Art of Unwinding: Fascia, Tension & Somatic Release on the Roof with Samantha

In this workshop, we’ll use somatic movement, gentle yoga postures, breathwork, and guided meditation to gently unravel patterns of tension in the fascia, soften areas of holding in the body, and support a deeper sense of ease.

This workshop is for you if you feel tight, stiff, or like there is something held in your body that you can’t quite stretch, breathe, or “think” your way out of. It’s for those who notice patterns of physical tension, emotional holding, or a sense of being constricted even when you’re trying to relax.

If you’ve done yoga before but still feel like certain areas of your body never fully let go, or like stress and emotion linger in your system longer than you want them to, this space offers a different way of working with the body... one that is slow, intuitive, and focused on unwinding rather than forcing release.

All levels and bodies welcome!

The Clearing of the Body: Digestion, Lymph & Release on the Roof with Samantha

In this workshop, we’ll use gentle yoga postures, breathwork, and guided meditation to support digestion, stimulate lymphatic flow, and help the body soften into its natural ability to process, clear, and integrate so you leave feeling lighter, more spacious, and reset from the inside out.

This workshop is for you if you often feel heavy, bloated, stagnant, or like your body has a hard time fully letting go—physically or emotionally. It’s for those who feel like they “hold onto things,” whether that’s stress, emotion, fatigue, or a general sense of feeling weighed down and unable to reset.

If you’ve been trying to eat better, move more, or rest more but still feel like your system isn’t fully clearing or processing, this space offers a different entry point... working with the body’s natural pathways of release rather than forcing change.

All levels and bodies welcome.

Extended Practice: Stretching and Strengthening Inside Leg

Stretching the inner leg is essential to sustaining the deep life force in the body. Due to excess fatigue and stress, the inner leg is typically tight, weak or collapsed. In this class we stretch and strengthen the inside leg that is home to the deepest reserves in the body—in Chinese Medicine it is the location for the kidney, liver, and spleen meridians. Through both dynamic and restorative movements this class helps reduce fatigue, increase circulation and rejuvenate the entire body.

3-hr Training: Finding the Sweet Spot

Inside every pose there a point of tension and balance that opens all the connective tissues of the body. Thus any given movement requires finding the place where the bones, joints and fascia harmonize so the nervous system can let go and the breath move freely. In this class we practice finding the “sweet spot” in each pose in order to optimize the flow of prana inside.

Price: $95

Sunday, April 25 | 10am-12pm

Extended Practice: Fluid Hips, Sacral Waters

In the chakra system, the sacrum and hips are equated with watery flow. But over a lifetime the hip joints can become impacted and dehydrated. Today one in four people suffer from hip osteoarthritis. In this class we do  movements to replenish the tissues around the hip through pumping, rocking, stretching and sliding. This class will bring a feeling of lightness, freedom and ease to your sacrum and hips.

Price: $65

Sunday, April 25 | 1-4pm

3-hr Training: The Body of Delight

One of the goals of yoga is to embody the feeling of delight. Unfortunately, in our world today, many people more readily identify with feelings of discontent. Distinctly different than pleasure, delight in yoga is the basic nature of prana and awareness. In this class, we touch into the body of delight through movement, sound, meditation and by connecting to your deepest calling.

Engaging the bandhas is an essential part of yoga, for the bandhas impact the master glands of the body while sparking open the nerve bundles along the front of the spine. However, due to stress, trauma and the pressures of modern day living, strain lodges in the body, making bandha work precarious and potentially irritating. This course undertakes an in-depth study of the anatomy of the pelvic, abdominal and cervical “locks”. We look at the bandhas not as contractions, but as internal seals used to channel prana, activate the chakras and balance the autonomic nervous system. We aim to demystify the bandhas, identifying them neither as mechanical locks nor esoteric techniques. Rather we will see how the bandhas flow as a natural extension of breathing and spinal motion. We will have time to explore a bandha each week using yoga, somatic work, meditations, journaling and pranayama. In this course we compare descriptions of the bandhas from the esoteric yoga tradition with contemporary research in the fields of psychology, neuroscience, somatics, and contemplative science.

SCHEDULE

  • DAY 1 April 1 | 11:30am-1:30pm
    Tapping the Root
-- Mula Bandha In this practice we energize the innermost structures of the pelvis without clenching or gripping. We explore how mula bandha supports the reproductive organs while providing stability and fluidity in the first two chakras.

  • DAY 2 April 8 | 11:30am-1:30pm
The Flying Bandha--Uddiyana Bandha Uddiyana bandha is critical for lengthening and stabilizing the lower back while activating the third chakra in the solar plexus. Discover how this bandha supports the internal organs and regulates the adrenal glands. We explore how this region is related to the energy of power and fear.

  • DAY 3 April 22 | 11:30am-1:30pm
The Throat Bandha-- This day is devoted to the throat and technique of the “water bandha”. This seal impacts the fluids in the neck-- blood, lymph and the secretion of thyroxine from the thyroid gland. In this class, we engage the delicate structures of the throat without causing excessive constriction. We study how the throat relates to sound resonance, vocal power and repressed emotion.

  • DAY 4 April 29 | 11:30am-1:30pm
The Tongue Seal– In hatha yoga it is of utmost importance to expand the region of the tongue, soft palate and upper throat. Yogis emphasize curling their tongue backward in order to open the pathway into the cranial chakras. Constriction of the palate and upper throat can result in diminished oxygen to the brain, fatigue, poor concentration, and dementia. In this class we open the roof of the mouth and work with the vital energy centers in the brain.

Exploration of Simplicity w/ Kacee Must

Exploration of Simplicity w/ Kacee Must

Join Kacee for a five-part series exploring the magic of simplicity as a way to create new clarity in your practice. Improving your technique in any pose happens over time, with clear technique and meaningful repetition. Without all three of these elements, the clarity required for growth cannot occur.

This course is a combination of exploring technique, prop usage, and sequencing while in practice. We will open with 45 minutes of practicing a sequence designed to prepare the body and see how elements of any pose show up in other poses. The last 15 minutes will be used to ask questions and discuss other ways to apply props, techniques, and how to teach the pose.

  • Tuesday, March 10: Knee in floor, foot in wall series

  • Thursday, March 12: Supta Virasana

  • Tuesday, March 17: Natarajasana

  • Thursday, March 19: Kapinjalasna

  • Tuesday, March 24: Salamba Sarvangasana

In all of our sessions, we will be focusing on a few words to help bring forward clarity in the technique of each pose:

  • Measuring

  • Framing

  • Center and Circumference

  • Posterior

  • Anterior

  • Linear

  • Sphere

The techniques we will cover are not based in one particular school of yoga, but a combination of many schools and approaches to alignment.

During this series, please come with questions, comments, and one prepared sequence for each pose so that you have your own thoughts and ideas to reference while practicing. For each session, you will need 4 blocks, 2 blankets, 1 chair, and 2 straps.

Sessions meet online from 7am-8am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This series counts as 5 contact hours towards the 300 hour program, and is also open to the public. Teachers and students of all levels are welcome. This will be a uniquely different offering than the previous rounds of Exploration of Simplicity, covering all new poses and techniques.

Price: $99

Hours are eligible for the 300hr program. Please contact Elyse to register at your discounted price.

Ecstatic Breath: Sacral + Root Chakra Meditation w/ Ann Fancy

Ecstatic breath work works by changing the rhythm and depth of which we breathe. As opposed to shallow breathing, which keeps our bodies in a state of fight or flight, ecstatic breath work helps you move past that, and into the parasympathetic nervous system for deep relaxation.

This workshop will pair the practice of ecstatic breath and guided meditation to cultivate awareness and peace.
