Reframe
Welcome to the Spring Cleaning challenge! We hope that the next 14 days offer you an opportunity to move, connect, and make space for the season ahead.
Today, our theme is reframe. The reframe is one of the most powerful tools we have for our mental health. Most simply put, to reframe is to redirect your thoughts through a new perspective as a means of changing your lived experience. On the yoga mat, being able to reframe our thoughts can increase our feelings of autonomy, mastery, and connectedness all while developing a more sustainable approach to practice.
As we embark on this 14 day journey together, keep this tool in your back pocket as a way to help you persist and make the best choices for you in the moment. Consider how the sentiment: “I get to practice yoga every day for two weeks!” carries an inherent privilege and sense of gratitude, while: “I have to fit in class every day to finish the challenge” might create a sense of burden. Alternatively, “I’ll still get on my mat today, but I’ll choose a yin class instead of vinyasa” is perhaps a more empowering thought that “I have to take an active class every day or else it doesn’t count.”
