Finding Alignment On and Off the Mat

By Faith Sheffield, Citizen Yoga Teacher

When I think about alignment, I imagine everything falling into place—a sense of confidence, support, and pride in where you are. Alignment isn’t just physical; it’s a state of being where you feel free, open, and ready to learn and accept.

In yoga, we explore alignment in two ways: physical and intellectual. Physical alignment comes through technique—the guidelines that help us enter a pose and become familiar with its structure. Intellectual alignment, however, is deeper. It’s the connection between body and mind, the awareness that invites us to feel balanced and centered beyond the mat.

When these two forms of alignment meet, something powerful happens. We experience clarity, openness, and a readiness to grow—not just in our practice, but in life.
