How You Do One Thing is How You Do Everything
By Kacee Must, Citizen Yoga Owner + Founder
The most unfortunate reality, with a very optimistic outcome. How you do one thing is how you do everything, which means that your approach, attitudes, patterns conscious and unconscious repeat in big ways and small ways in every single thing you do. The unfortunate reality provided by the fact that life is a series of cause and effect, and human beings have exigency of choice, most circumstances that repeat are often a series of conscious or unconscious choices being made on repeat.
So the first step in shifting or changing something is self-reflection. Time to recall without judgment the happenings, reactions, responses of your day.
Next, know that sustainable change happens in small little moments, not big dramatic shifts. Because the law is that everything is interconnected, when one thing changes, everything else will fall in line.
You do not need to think about everything that needs to change. Choose a point of focus. In practice it could be the direction of your feet in a pose, it will adjust the position of the legs and pelvis, which changes the position of everything else above. Use practice as a way to prove this to yourself.
Use interactions in life that hold little emotional charge to sharpen your skills of reaction and appropriate response. Eventually, you can slowly introduce more charged moments with this same skill set and you will find your life more balanced, integrated and joyful.
Today’s prompt:
Pick one moment of your day and reflect throughout the rest of the day on the patterns from that individual moment that recur throughout the day.
