Vision
by Elyse Brogdon, CY Teacher and Director of People + Processes
Spring is the season for big vision: dreaming, manifesting, and goal setting. As we open the windows and look around at the world coming back to life, we can harness the elements of Spring (including the liver, which Traditional Chinese Medicine refers to as “the opening to the eyes”) and get really clear on what we see for ourselves and our lives. Unlike the start of the new year, which occurs in the dead of winter, the beginning of spring is actually the time to set goals and begin to take action for our year ahead. Also unlike a New Year’s resolution, I like to consider the vision of spring to be less about short term goals or achievement, and more about creating a life we want to live.
Manifesting a big vision like this is no easy feat. But like any long journey, it starts with a few small steps. Here are some of the guiding questions I like to use to begin drawing the map for the path ahead. They might not all feel relevant, and that’s ok. Take some time to journal on 1-2 questions, and you might be surprised what sprouts forth.
Step 1: Inspiration
What are the most important aspects of my life right now?
What is an area in my job/life/relationships where I am seeking more fulfillment or satisfaction?
What is something in my community or the world that needs my participation?
Step 2: Clarity
Choose ONE answer from above and dig into it a bit deeper.
If I were to follow my inspiration, how would my life look differently than it does now?
What skills do I have that will help me?
What don’t I know and what do I need to learn?
Step 3: Connection
Who needs to know what I’m working on?
Who can help me?
What examples can I look to who are already doing it?
Step 4. Action
What is one thing I can do in the next hour to take a step towards my vision? The next month? The next year?
