Private Session with Abbie

FRIDAY - FEBRUARY 6, 2026 | 5:30-7:30pm

Extended Practice
Katonah Ground of Being Practice

A grounding practice establishes one’s lower body as the ground of one’s being. As we are connected to the earth, feet, legs, hips and pelvis are our root system. We ground ourselves in the service of descending roots for the depth work in order to rise, surge, ripen, boost and ascend to emotional, spiritual and intellectual heights of maturation. A grounding practice is like tilling our soil for the self to grow. We are rooted on this planet and as we grow we rise up on it.

SATURDAY - FEBRUARY 7, 2026 | 9:45-11:45am

Extended Practice
Katonah Fluency Practice

A fluency practice makes us more yielding in the body and alert in the mind. Moving when we feel stiff or sluggish promotes dexterity. Generating heat from rousing the body yields greater facility in all of its forms, as well as a way to access nimbleness in body, mind and imagination. A fluency practice will send a charge of energy flowing through our form, opening up potential and demanding pliancy from an uncompromising nature or a feeling of inertia.

SATURDAY - FEBRUARY 7, 2026 | 12:30-5:30pm

5 Hour Intensive
5 Element Theory in Practice + Life

The five elements; wood, fire, earth, metal and water; can be understood as five phases of energy with corresponding seasons, organs, colors, tastes, sounds, etc; each giving rise to the next as a never ending cycle of life. The five elements are the bedrock of Taoist theory which the Katonah practice is based upon. In this intensive we will move through the theory and practice that underpins the Katonah material, exploring the nature of cycles that can be seen in our bodies, our practices and our lives. We will move through physical practices with the organs in mind and demonstrate body reading, observing how each pose can be an exploration of the rich interior landscape that exists within each one of us.

SUNDAY - FEBRUARY 8, 2026 | 9:45-11:45am

Extended Practice
Katonah Longevity Practice

A longevity practice develops oneself as a snail in a shell, one’s interior. As we burrow inside ourselves for safety, we access deep relaxation and the development of our interior universe. We fold and unfold ourselves in the service of being reflective, imaginative, metaphorical and meta, tracking breath through spherical forms, filling ourselves up and finding center and circumference by putting ourselves in the middle of our circumstances, in order to be radiant. For within the nature of being spherical is the pattern of being whole.

5 Hour Intensive
The How and Why of Katonah Yoga

The Katonah practice is designed to awaken pieces of ourselves from the slumber of unconscious habits in order to access our sentient self. The use of technique rather than our personal impulses affords better function. Thus, it is technique that propositions us to change. We use measure rather than feelings to create a stable structure and as we do, we discover that our body was designed to to fit itself. In this intensive we will move through the mechanics and theory of the Katonah Yoga asana practice and experience the power of pranayama to open up territory in our bodies for our spirit to move through it.

  • Abbie Galvin is the owner of The Studio, a NYC based yoga studio, teaching Katonah Yoga. She has been honing this practice for the past 25 years and has a strong student-base from all around the world. Abbie's instruction is informed by her own creative process as a filmmaker and from her exploration of the therapeutic process as a psychoanalyst. She has learned over and over that truly participating in any formal process of self-exploration leads to transformation whether it be physical, psychological or intellectual. Her goal is to engage students of yoga in the dialogue between their conscious and their unconscious selves because it is through that effort that we potentiate ourselves. It is her intention as a teacher to cajole each student in that most rigorous effort to be grounded, to grow upwards, and to participate in the creation of their best self.

  • KATONAH YOGA® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan of Katonah Yoga Center over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being. Framing the practice, maps of time and personal space are defined and refined. Themes using asana as origami, manipulating form for function, and developing a sense of personal measure are incorporated in Katonah Yoga practices. Katonah Yoga is organized around three principles of esoteric dialogue: all polarities are mediated by trinity; the universe has pattern, pattern belies intelligence; by virtue of repetition there is potential for insight. Disciplined techniques are organized for revelation through revolutions.
