Defining Accountability
By Shannon Murphy, Citizen Yoga Studio Manager
At Citizen Yoga, Support is more than a value, it’s what holds our community together. It’s the hand that helps you rise when you’re unsure of your footing. As we move through the You Matter Yoga Challenge, support becomes the foundation that transforms 14 days of consistent practice into something deeper: a commitment to yourself, and a connection to others.
In order to support others, we have to have accountability, both with ourselves and with those around us. Accountability isn’t about pressure or perfection. In our community, accountability means care. It’s the practice of honoring what you promised yourself, even when you’re tired, busy, or unsure. It’s checking in with your body each day and asking, “What do I need?”
Sometimes, accountability is also saying “yes” to rest and “no” to overextending.
In a supportive community, accountability becomes a shared experience. You’re not showing up alone, you’re showing up with each other and for each other. Every time you roll out your mat, you demonstrate integrity, accountability, support, and the knowledge that your presence truly matters.
Today’s prompt:
Add a weekly recurring personal self care commitment to your calendar. Hold yourself accountable for finding time and space to support yourself.
