Organize
by Kacee Must, Citizen Yoga Founder + Owner
I had to laugh when this word was assigned to me. I love organizing our bodies and minds on a yoga mat. This method of organization is non-linear, conceptual, and offers so many different options and methods to the same place. However, when it comes to organizing outside of the yoga space in work and home, I would humbly say, this is not my greatest strength. Recognizing that about myself has become a strength. When I overwork in areas that are not within my inherent nature, I expend unnecessary energy and end up frustrated. I have learned to surround myself with an ecosystem of people with strengths different than mine.
To me, organize means to balance. Here are a few ways do my best to balance:
Understand my communication style and teach others around me about my stress patterns, and tendencies so that we can work together instead of against each other.
Have someone help me create initial systems that are challenging for me to begin, but I have the ability to work within
Use props in my yoga practice to find new angles and energies so that I am not always defaulting to my natural habits
Self-Acceptance has been a huge part of my journey towards balance as it relates to organization. I had to accept that my brain organizes in a non-linear way which provides a different type of creativity and dynamism.
The challenge winner gets an hour with a professional organizer, who I have worked with personally. She is incredibly helpful and practical. Her systems have worked to help me with my kitchen and kids toys by providing a place for what we use most day to day.
