Why do we have a You Matter Yoga Challenge?

You Matter is our most important yoga challenge of the year. The holiday season can be particularly challenging for our mental health, with changes to our regular schedules, increased pressure around familial and societal expectations, and a major seasonal shift, all creating circumstances where it is more difficult to take care of your personal wellbeing.

We created the You Matter yoga challenge to help every Citizen student feel seen and cared for. By providing a structure to support your yoga practice, self reflection, and social connection, we aim to make the time between the holidays filled with growth instead of stress, connection instead of isolation.

The challenge is based on our four pillars of mental health:

  • Movement: changing the state of your body to change the state of your mind.

  • Mindfulness: Paying attention to present moment with purpose.

  • Mastery: Learning something new.

  • Meaningful Connection: Being in relation with others.

Through daily yoga practice and prompts, you'll spend 14 days connecting with yourself and others with one simple goal: to remember that you are not alone, that you are seen and cared for, and that you matter.
