How to help those struggling with mental health

At Citizen, we believe in a full-person approach to transformation and healing. If you or someone you care about is struggling with mental health, please know this: you are not alone, and there is support available.

Hold Space, Gently
Sometimes, the most powerful gift we can offer is simply to listen — without judgment, without trying to "fix." If someone opens up to you, try to meet them with presence and compassion, just like you’d meet yourself on the mat.

Encourage Professional Support
Yoga teaches us to honor where we are and to reach out when we need balance. Removing the stigma around getting help is often the first step. Encouraging your loved one to speak with a therapist, counselor, or doctor can be a heartfelt step toward healing. Offer to help with the search, or even to sit beside them as they take that step.

Stay Connected
A simple message. An invitation to class. A walk together. Small gestures remind someone they’re valued and not alone — even when words are hard to find.

Learn with Curiosity
Just as we grow in our practice by learning and exploring, we can better support others by understanding what they may be experiencing — whether it’s anxiety, depression, or burnout.

Take Care of Yourself, Too
Supporting others requires that we nurture our own well-being. Boundaries, rest, and community are essential. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

If you're in need of a safe space, a supportive class, or to simply be seen, you know where to find us. Stay connected, say hello.
